The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program is intended to prepare students for a career in business and related fields and is also intended to provide students with a professional foundation tailored to policy formulation and practice in Business Administration. The BBA program is designed to produce highly-trained graduates in the following disciplines: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, Human Resource Management (HRM), and Procurement and Supplies Management.

Further, the program provides opportunities for graduates who may wish to enroll for further studies to Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or other postgraduate programs.

Accounting optionThe objective of the Accounting specialization is to produce creative, innovative, ethical, competent graduates in the field of accounting in the context of current development and practices.

A graduate of the programme in the Accounting specialization should be able to:

  • Critically apply the concepts, fundamental principles and appropriate techniques and practices of Accounting using systems and software in the context of current developments to solve routine account problems.
  • Perform analysis of real situations and provide operational solutions to challenging accounting situations, using ethical economic and global perception.
  • Conduct audits and prepare management reports for decision making and be able to communicate with accountant and non-accountant.
  • Apply taxation principles and Taxation Acts to compute tax liability and provide tax advice.
  • Have sufficient skills for effective services to be rendered within organizations.
  • Manage risk in new ventures and reflect on performance feedback to identify and action learning opportunities and self-improvement.

Finance OptionThe objective of the Finance specialization is to:

  • Equip learners with advanced knowledge and skills in Finance management in business environment.
  • Equip learners with skills in interpreting financial statements.
  • Equip learners with techniques of assets management.
  • Equip learners with techniques of risks management.

A graduate of the BBA programme in the Finance specialization should be able to:

  • Analyze and interpret financial statements.
  • Give adequate financial decision making advice and communicate to management of an organization and non-entities.
  • Advise investors in securities operations of capital markets
  • Analyze and evaluate the impact of economic variables. Legislation, ethics, technological advances and the environment on an organization?s operations within East African (EA) context.
  • Critically contribute to strategic decision making by applying financial management concepts.

Management OptionThe Business Administration specialization should be able to develop learners who are capable of:

  • Developing strategic and operational plans.
  • Designing and implementing Business performance management practices.
  • Analyzing the international dimensions of business management.
  • Discussing and exploring contemporary issues and theories in management.

A graduate of the programme in the Business Administration specialization should be able to:

  • Carry out the key tasks in business functional areas.

  • Conduct business practices within acceptable legal and ethical framework.
  • Effectively communicate and be a resourceful team player.
  • Discuss and explore contemporary issues and theories in management.

Marketing OptionThe objective of the Marketing specialization is to:

  • Support the marketing of products and services.
  • Develop marketing innovative skills.
  • Train in monitoring and controlling the marketing process of an organisation.

A graduate of the programme in the Marketing specialization should be able to:

  • Carry out market research for present and future markets.
  • Develop innovative products and programmes that effectively cater for customer needs and wants.
  • Appropriately identify market segments and targets.
  • Successfully manage customer relationship.
  • Design competitive marketing strategies

Human Resource Management Option: The objective of the Human Resource Management specialization is to:

  • Provide skills related to Human Resource Management requirements (locally, globally).
  • Integrate theory and practice of Human Resource Management.
  • Ensure employability is recognizable as central theme.

A graduate of the programme in the Human Resource Management specialization should be able to:

  • Articulate the content and context of Human Resource Management in working organizations or institutions and apply them in a given environment.
  • Analyze, identify and describe the Human Resource Management needs and devise and implement the relevant skills development plan.
  • Critically analyze concepts and theories and appropriate application in given Human Resource Management related situations.
  • Examine different personnel management systems at local and global levels.
  • Design appropriate strategic plans to optimize human resource performance towards achieving organizational goals.
  • Advice organization management on labour laws and relation practices.

Procurement and Supply Chain Management: To equip learners with the necessary knowledge, techniques and procedures necessary in undertaking procurement in a variety of sectors.

  • A graduate of the procurement programme should be able to:
  • Articulate the legal and policy framework regulating procurement and disposal of assets
  • Critically analyse the complex relationship between purchasing and supply chains
  • Design appropriate natural life cycle of relationships and the implications in purchasing and supply

Entry Requirements

To enroll in the Bachelor of Business Administration program at any of the Kenyan Universities, the student must meet any of the following minimum requirements.

  • Mean grade of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and a minimum of C (plain) in both Mathematics and English. 
  • A diploma from a recognized examining body or institution and in a field relevant to the program. 
  • A Certificate taking 2 years and above from a recognized examining body or institution and in a field relevant to the program. OR
  • A Pre-university College Certificate from a recognized institution. OR
  • Division II and above in O-level.

Objectives of Bachelor of Business Administration

The Bachelor of Business Administration program aims at improving and imparting intermediate knowledge, skills, and positive attributes in business administration to candidates so that at the end of the course, BBA graduates will be able to carry out managerial functions in business administration duties in their organizations.

The degree aims to provide students with a broad-based business education that takes into account the skills necessary to perform as a professional in the dynamic global business environment

The overall objective of the BBA program is to equip students with a range of skills, knowledge, and practical experience to respond to the needs of various stakeholders in today?s technology-oriented business world. The specific objectives of the program are to:

  • Equip learners with skills, techniques, and practices in business;
  • Develop learning process that enables progression to higher levels of studies;
  • Motivate students to become entrepreneurial and able to respond positively to the changes and opportunities presented by new ideas and technologies;
  • Produce graduates who can integrate theory and practice to work effectively and efficiently in organizations;
  • Assist the learner to develop soft skills that enable acceptance as a team member in any environment;
  • Promote ethics and ethical behavior, especially in a business environment.

Upon completion of the bachelor of business administration degree programme the graduate shall have acquired knowledge, skills, and attitude to:

  • Define, differentiate and apply business concepts and managerial tools in different organizational settings in decision making;
  • Apply and transfer business knowledge to the work environment and provide practical solutions;
  • Demonstrate creativity, innovativeness and effectively solve emerging challenges in modern business environment;

  • Demonstrate leadership skills within a legal and ethical framework;
  • Adapt to and work in a multi-cultural and global business environment appreciating contemporary issues;
