The institute has since inception run various project phases, with a duration of two years each. The first phase was between 2002 and 2004 and it entailed infrastructural development with the first enrolment of 13 students. Subsequent phases focused on curriculum development for various courses. The students’ population has grown considerably from the initial 13 students to the current enrolment of 368 students as at end of 2013. From 2010, the project main concern has been sustainability, with a lot of effort geared towards growing enrolment for main courses and short courses, to a level that would generate sustainability. Up to this point we have achieved 26% sustainability, and are hopeful that by the end of 2016 we will have achieved this goal.
The staff at the institute has grown from 2 members in 2002 to 15 staff with the Manager as the team leader. At the moment we have a library with over 5000 volumes, boarding facilities with a capacity of 96 students, a fully equipped kitchen, dining facilities, a guest house and a 37-seater bus.
