Africa Digital Media Institute (ADMI) - History

The story behind Africa Digital Media Institute's (ADMI) state-of-the-art campus today began in 2011 when Wilfred Kiumi launched the Jamhuri Film and Television Academy (JFTA). Wilfred, our Founding Director, is passionate about promoting the education and empowerment of young people. He created JFTA to transfer knowledge to young and enthusiastic filmmakers in Kenya.

Classes at JFTA began in February 2012, initially with just five students taking courses in Film and TV Production. By 2013, JFTA had gained an excellent reputation and built successful partnerships with organisations such as FilmAid, Kenya Film Studios, and SuperSport Studios.

Things have grown quickly. As our education offering increased, and our pan-African vision crystalized. JFTA formally rebranded to ADMI in 2015, reflecting this exciting progress. Today, our extremely qualified and experienced staff teach more than 300 students from across Africa, supported by a strong board and a highly respected Advisory Council.
