This diploma in journalism and media studies program introduces learners to the fundamentals of journalism and media studies, as well as the contemporary social and cultural context within which Kenyan journalists work.

The program educates trainees in journalistic basics such as reporting, writing, editing, and advanced media analysis so that they can create media, interpret the all-present media messages and understand the ways that media can affect individuals and nations through television, radio, cinema, internet, newspapers and magazines.

Graduates of the program will also have communicative competence and gain insights in communication fields like broadcast and print media, advertising and public relations and international communication. Their skills will be useful in media houses, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, business enterprises, public relations firms and other organizations where Communications and/or journalistic services are required.

By taking a multidisciplinary approach, this on-campus course combines theory and practical work with the aim of producing creative, innovative, and passionate graduates who possess the skills required to provide solutions to the pertinent issues affecting our society.

Objectives of Journalism and Media Studies

This diploma in journalism and media studies programme aims at developing the student's understanding of both theoretical and applied issues in journalism and related areas. It is designed to give you strong journalistic skills and an appreciation of what is required of journalists working in modern-day journalism.

The Diploma aims to provide students with:
