Children rely on adults to make sound appropriate decisions about their safety and well-being. The certificate in child care and protection provides students with the skills and confidence to be strong advocates for children.
This course will:
- equip students with the skills required to engage in their statutory responsibilities,
- provide a high level of practical information and skills
- consolidate new and prior learning and questioning personal and societal beliefs.
Graduates often become the leaders and resource people on child protection in their communities, raising the skill and consciousness of the entire community in child protection and advocacy. Child advocates at this level can truly make a difference to the children in their local communities.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirements for the certificate in child care and protection course are:
- KCSE Mean Grade D (Plain) or;
- Pass in relevant Artisan Course or;
- Equivalent qualification approved by KNEC.
Objectives of Child Care and Protection
The certificate in child care and protection focuses on skills development of professionals in child protection, child welfare and other related fields it aims at producing professionals in child protection with the required knowledge, skills, and attitude for best practice.
Specific course objectives
- To produce quality professionals in child protection
- To enhance the professional skills of the providers of child welfare, child care and child protection services
- To develop the ability of such officers and service providers to assess the needs and intervene in child protection matters related to individuals, families, groups and communities
