The Bachelor of Education Arts degree program is designed to produce graduate teachers who are well equipped with the requisite competencies and values of teaching specific subject areas as prescribed in the secondary education curriculum in Kenya. The program has been developed in line with the requirements of the country?s secondary education system and the international standards on the graduate teacher training curriculum.
This BEd Arts program is also suitable for people who are involved in educational management and training in the tertiary institutions both in the public and private sectors. In addition, some subject combinations provide competency in Economic Planning, Business and Financial Management as well as Accounting Practices. Students who go through the program can also become trainers in tertiary institutions as well as institutions of higher learning.

- Bachelor of Education (Arts) - Mathematics and Business Studies
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) - Mathematics and Geography
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) - Geography and History
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) - Geography and Christian Religious Education
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) - English and Literature
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) - Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education
- Bachelor of Education (Arts) - History and Christian Religious Education
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Education Arts program candidates must satisfy the minimum University entry requirements of mean grade C+.
In addition to meeting the minimum University general admission requirements, candidates for the BEd Arts degree program must have any of the following:
- Mean grade C+ at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+ in any two (2) Arts subjects;
- KACE or equivalent with at least two principal passes and a subsidiary
- KCSE with a mean grade of C (Plain) or above and a Diplom in education with at least C+ in any two (2) teaching subjects.
- P1 Grade trained primary school teacher with a mean grade C (plain) or above at KCSE with at least C+ in any two (2) teaching subjects.
Objectives of Bachelor of Education Arts
The BEd Arts programme seeks to produce graduate teachers who will have the requisite knowledge, skills and values relevant to not only be competent in the skills of delivery but also be specialized in their areas of interest, ability and aspirations.
Specifically, the BEd Arts program is planned in order to accomplish the following objectives:
- to prepare the student for an active career in all aspects of the profession of education
- to provide a comprehensive training background necessary for the students to become competent experts in the profession of education
- to enable the student identify the varied intellectual and special needs of the learner
- to develop the intellectual, professional and social characteristics that will enable the student to become responsible leaders in their schools and the community
- to provide the students a rich basis for interest in further training and education in their areas of expertise, ability and interest
