AIU Faculty involved in Africa Study Bible Project.

In Africa, 400 million Protestant Christians are without a full study Bible written to address the spiritual needs of their own cultures. The Africa Study Bible is been developed to fill this immense need. It will be a totally new kind of Bible built from the ground up by theologians and pastors in Africa who see the critical need to make scripture relevant to the every day lives of their people. The goal is to increase the understanding of the Bible using African insights and experiences to meet the needs of the church in Africa and around the world.

The concept of a study Bible specifically created for the needs of African Christians began in 2003 among African leaders, Oasis International and Tyndale House Publishers. Missionary statesman Dr. Danny McCain led an effort to evaluate the understanding of the Bible by English-speaking church members in Jos, Nigeria and the potential impact of having the Bible in clear, modern language using African vocabulary.

Over the following years, the project moved forward through conversations with leaders through out Africa, Bible experts at Tyndale, and the Oasis International Board. These conversations included ones with African Bible scholar, Dr. Tite Tiénou from Burkina Faso, previously a member of the team that formed the vision for the Africa Bible Commentary.

The Africa Study Bible is being developed, published and distributed by highly qualified individuals and organizations sharing a common vision, to feed God’s people from the source of life: God and His Holy Word. Of the 66 books of the bible their first publication has been the gospel according to John. Some of the AIU faculty who are involved in this project include; Dr.John Jusu who is the Supervising editor, Dr. Priscilla Adoyo, Dr. Henry Mutua, Dr.Samuel Ngewa, and Dr. James Nkansah-Obrempong form the review committee on the campus of Africa International University.
