Pinnacle Institute for Sign Language & Disability

Pinnacle Institute for Sign Language and Disability Access (PISL&DA) aims to break down the barriers between the deaf and hearing community and raise awareness of Kenyan Sign Language, which is an interesting and unique method of communication.

Our Vision

Pinnacle Institute for Sign language and Disability Access aspires to foster a sense of "Deaf Heart" in the individuals who study this language and culture.

These individuals then become allies to the Deaf community and carry the skill and knowledge necessary to inspire change in their chosen careers.

Our Mission

Pinnacle Institute for Sign Language and Disability Access' mission is to make it easier for you to learn Kenyan Sign Language (KSL). Using advanced Internet technology and effective teaching theories, PISL&DA is designed to teach you Kenyan Sign Language from home, school, work, a library, an airport terminal, an Internet cafe, or anywhere you may be with an Internet connection, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Persons with Disabilities Act (PDA) 2003, promotes civil rights for people with disabilities and protects people with disabilities from discrimination. It now gives people with disabilities rights in the areas of employment, education, access to goods, facilities and services. Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) is used by over half of the country's estimated 600,000 Deaf population. KSL is a recognized language with its own grammar, syntax and structure and therefore it is impossible for Deaf people to rely on lip-reading as a form of communication. KSL users need interpreters to access services to aid smooth communication channels.
