About Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Analysis Masters program.

The Master of Pharmacy degree course in Pharmaceutical Analysis at the University of Nairobi is intended to train highly qualified analysts involved in both quality assurance and quality control of pharmaceuticals and related substances. On completion of the course, the students will be expected to be competent in modern analytical techniques, monitoring of pharmaceutical and related manufacturing process and the setting up and running of a quality control laboratory. The analysts will obtain sound scientific foundation to qualify them for academic appointments and carry out original research .

Entry requirements for Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Analysis

 

The candidates eligible for admission into the programme shall fulfil the following conditions:-




  1. Be in possession of a bachelor of pharmacy degree from the university of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by the University of Nairobi's Senate and for this purpose the degree should be registrable by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.



  2. Shall have completed one year of intern-ship in an institution recognized by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Analysis Course Subjects

 


  1. The course is a full time program extending over two years. In the first year the students will study pharmaceuticals analysis by Course work and Examination. The second second year in a specified area and writing up of a Master's thesis.



  2. Candidates shall be required to give and attend seminars,as prescribed through the coursework period for al the courses.




Course outline


Year 1 of studies


The Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Analysis candidates will be required to complete satisfactorily all the eight Courses, which will be offered as outlined below.




  1. All the courses are compulsory.



  2. In addition, before the end of the first year of study, students shall submit and obtain approval of their research proposal.



Course Title


Thermal and electrochemical methods, Biological methods, Chromatograthic methods, Spectroscopic methods, Research methodology, Drug information and Biostatistics, Synthetic methods, Computer applications and Pharmacy Management, Pharmaceutical manufacturing practices.


The second year will be devoted to research, seminars and thesis preparation.
