About Master of Arts in Construction Management Masters program.

The construction industry is dynamic and generates a myriad of challenges with respect to management of construction projects.


These challenges need to be met with elaborate and updated skills in order to enhance the efficiency of the construction industry in terms of providing the national capital stock and other infrastructural facilities which are necessary for the national economic development.


The Master of Arts degree programme in Construction Management at the University of Nairobi is designed to prepare students to meet these challenges. Students will be equipped with skills and knowledge to enable them manage construction processes or constructed facilities more efficiently. The programme is suitable for professionals such as Quantity Surveyors, Architects, Engineers, Valuers and Estate Managers, especially those who wish to advance their skills in the discipline of Construction Management.


The Master of Arts degree programme in Construction Management at the University of Nairobi encompasses both theory and practice applied to challenges and practical problems of construction projects and the construction industry in general.



Objectives of Master of Arts in Construction Management

The Master of Arts degree programme in Construction Management at the University of Nairobi meets the following objectives:


  • expose the students to relevant advanced theories in construction project management



  • Equip the students with enhanced skills for conceptualisation and problem solving techniques that meet the challenges of construction project industry.

Entry requirements for Master of Arts in Construction Management

 Holders of at least an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Building Economics, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Engineering, Land Economics from the University of Nairobi or an equivalent qualification from a University recognised by the University of Nairobi Senate.



Holders of at least a Lower Second Class Honours Degree in any of the disciplines in in Building Economics, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Engineering, Land Economics from the University of Nairobi or an equivalent qualification from a University recognised by the University of Nairobi Senate. With a relevant post-graduate diploma or other equivalent qualification or at least two years relevant work experience.

Master of Arts in Construction Management Course Subjects

The Master of Arts degree programme in Construction Management at the University of Nairobi programme shall consist of lectures, course work, seminars, practicals, written examination and a project.

Each course unit shall comprise forty five contact hours


the programme shall be covered in a minimum of 4 semesters of 15 weeks each.


In each semester, students shall be allowed to take a minimum of 2 course units and a maximum of 6 course units.
