About BSc. Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design Bachelors Degree program.

Despite considerable technological progress, a noticeable degree of poor housing, and interior design, health and sanitation prevails in both rural and urban areas. The programme aims at producing a cadre of trained professionals, who will advise and demonstrate approaches and techniques of altering the living environment. Moreover, there is growing demand for competent personnel in the areas of clothing, textiles and interior design with increased opportunities created by East African Federation, COMESA, and the international markets.

Objectives of BSc. Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design

The objectives of the BSc. Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design programme at Egerton University are to: -

  • Prepare graduates for a variety of careers in Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design.
  • Provide graduates with professional competencies necessary for both formal and self-employment in institutions, industries and organizations related to their field of training, so that they can compete to advantage in the job market.
  • Produce graduates with research skills in the areas of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design.
  • Provide graduates with basic skills, knowledge and understanding to pursue further education in the areas of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design.

Entry requirements for BSc. Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design

To be eligible for admission to the BSc. Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design programme at Egerton University, the applicant must satisfy entry requirements for Egerton University.
Additionally candidates must have passed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
at the minimum grades as indicated below:

  • Biology C+ or Biological Sciences B-
  • Chemistry C+ Physical Sciences B-
  • Mathematics C+ Mathematics C+
  • English/Kiswahili C+ English/Kiswahili C+

Candidates with a diploma with at least a credit pass from an institution recognised by Egerton University senate.

Mininum Entry Requirements for Bachelor's Degree
The entry requirements set out below are only minimum, and they in no way entitle an applicant to a place in the University. Applicants must:

  • Have the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with an average grade C+ (C plus)passed at one sitting from at least seven subjects drawn from subject groupings as specified by the Kenya National Examinations Council or its equivalent.

OR

  • Have one of the following combinations of passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education examination:
  • Two (2) Principal passes obtained at the same sitting.

OR

  • Egerton University Statutes 2008 43
  • Two (2) Principal passes obtained at different sittings provided the passes are of Grade C or higher.

OR

  • Hold a Diploma of Egerton University with a 'Credit' pass or higher or an equivalent
  • Qualification from a recognized institution in the relevant field of specialization acceptable to Senate. Those with a 'Pass' Diploma will be considered if they have at least two years relevant experience after graduation.

AND
Meet additional entry requirements as may be specified by the respective Department, Faculty, School or Institute.

To be admitted for a PRE-SERVICE DEGREE PROGRAM, a prospective candidate must have all the requirements set up by the joint Admission Board (JAB), with a prospective IN-SERVICE student must have completed a diplomaprogram in the relevant field and graduated with at least a CREDIT.

BSc. Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design Course Subjects

The BSc. Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design degree programme at Egerton Univeristy may be taken on either full time or part time basis for a minimum of 169.5 credit hours.

Graduates with a diploma from a college recognized by Egerton University senate may receive up to a maximum of 30% credit hour transfers.
