Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operation Management degree programme (BTTM), aims at offering insights into the real-world problems facing the travel and tourism industry in general.

The Travel and Tour Operation Management degree aims at bringing together academics and practitioners in the tourist industry to exchange ideas in travel management and delivery of quality services in the tourism industry.

The training given in the Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operation Management at Moi University, provides students with an opportunity to acquire relevant knowledge and skills geared towards meeting industry needs.

This four-year degree programme strives to meet the training needs of graduates from junior and middle levels, as well as KCSE candidates who have qualified to pursue degree programme in this highly specialised field.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Travel andTour Operation Management programme will be qualified to undertake careers in both public and private enterprises, namely:

  • travel agents;
  • tour operators;
  • hotels,
  • national and regional tourism bodies,
  • public institutions such as Ministry of Tourism,
  • transport firms,
  • airlines, and
  • tourism and recreation and entertainment centres among others.

The Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operation Management degree programme use modular and Problem Based Learning Approach (PBL). This student-centred learning approach uses a combination of problem-based, project-oriented, work-based and co-operative learning. The training emphasises practical work, fieldwork and industrial attachments in keeping with the Mission of Moi University of producing practical, development–conscious and extension–oriented graduates.

Objectives of Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operations Management

The objectives of the Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operation Management programme are to:

  • Provide training programmes which are flexible, relevant, rigorous and consistent with the best tourism practice and, which also, embody the principles of ethical practice in Travel and Tour Operations and social responsibility.
  • Provide students with appropriate knowledge, skills and competencies in strategic travel and tour operations planning, policy formulation, Business plan formulation and management of Travel and tourism enterprises.
  • Provide students with appropriate knowledge, skills and competencies that will enable them to integrate various parameters (i.e. social, cultural, economic, environmental technological and political parameters) in planning, organisation and management of the travel and tourism industry.
  • Provide students with appropriate knowledge, skills and competencies in tourism product development, service delivery and marketing and promotion.
  • Enable students to develop appropriate research methods and skills in the development of quality tourism including aspects of operational quality control management, strategic approaches to quality management, analysis of performance indicators, and best practice in national and international tourism development.
  • Provide students with appropriate knowledge, skills and competencies in human resource management for the strategic planning and development of sustainable tourism

Entry requirements for Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operations Management

There are three modes for admission for the Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operation Management Degree Programme at Moi University:

Direct Entrants from school:

  • To be admitted directly from school, the candidate must have passed in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, and fulfilled Joint University Admissions Board Criteria.
  • In addition to this, the candidate must have passed with a minimum of C- in Mathematics, and English or Kiswahili and must have passed the KSCE in the other remaining subjects in Groups III, IV and VI.
  • However, these requirements and clusters may change from time to time.

Mature Entrants:

  • To qualify for mature entry the candidate must be a holder of Diploma or equivalent qualification from recognized institution of higher learning and working experience of at least two years in relevant field.

Privately Sponsored Students:

  • Privately sponsored students are required to apply directly to the University for Admission.
  • The applicant must have attained a minimum grade C+ in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and must have passed with a minimum grade of C- in Mathematics, and English or Kiswahili. They must also have passed the KSCE in the other remaining subjects in Groups III, IV and VI. Diploma holders from a recognized institution of higher learning may also be considered under this mode.
