About Bachelor of Education Arts Bachelors Degree program.

The Bachelor of Education (Arts) Programme at Egerton University is designed to prepare teachers and Educators within the teacher training prescriptions of the Ministry of Education and the Secondary School system in Kenya. The BEd programme is run on an integrated basis where the professional and academic contents are offered concurrently as determined by the country's Teacher Training Component (TTC).

In addition to Foundation Courses in Education, students will be expected to choose two other subjects that are offered in the service departments. These subjects must correspond to the curriculum offered in Secondary Schools and other equivalent institutions in Kenya‟s Education system.

In order to design a balanced curriculum to accommodate the professional and academic requirements, courses from ten (10) subject areas provide flexible subject combination. The departments are:-

  • Psychology, Counselling and Educational Foundations
  • Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Management
  • Literature Language and Linguistics
  • History Philosophy and Religion

Objectives of Bachelor of Education Arts

The curriculum for the BEd (Arts) Programme at Egerton University is designed to provide adequate opportunities in both theory and practice of Education in order to train and produce qualified graduate teachers/Educators for the achievement of the national goals of Education and development.
The Programme will prepare students:

  • for an active and excellent career in all facets of the profession of Education;
  • to be active and competent in teaching two subjects at the secondary school level;
  • to be able to identify and develop the intellectual needs of the learner;
  • To gain the intellectual, professional and social characteristics that will enable them to become responsible leaders within the school and the community;
  • to contribute meaningfully to the national goals of Education and development;
  • to conduct training and carry out research in Education and in their areas of specialization and
  • for further Education and training in their areas of interest and specialization.

Entry requirements for Bachelor of Education Arts

    Candidates must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements of the university. In addition candidates must have attained the minimum grades as specified by various departments from time to time. In addition, admission may be granted to outstanding holder of Diploma/S1 Certificate in Arts Education from recognized institutions.

    Bachelor of Education Arts Course Subjects

    The Bachelor of Education (Arts) programme at Egerton University takes a period of four academic years. Each year consists of two semesters of seventeen (17) weeks each.

    In addition, the students shall take twelve (12) weeks of School Practice in approved secondary schools or equivalent institutions.

    During School Practice, the students shall carry out a Project on production of a Teaching/Learning Resource in one of their teaching subjects.
