Criminal Justice is the government-controlled, systematic practice of
applying laws for the purpose of social control in society; and for the
prevention and lessening of crime and for using court and legal
procedures, which necessitates penalties and sanctions for law
violations.
The criminal justice system consists of three components;
- Law Enforcement (Police),
- Judiciary (Courts) and
- Corrections (Jails,
prisons, probation and parole).
Students receive instruction on the
function of each component at the local, regional and national level.
