The Bachelor of Commerce degree at Strathmore University prepares students to work in the area of management, finance, accountancy, banking, consultancy, administration and related fields. The course at Strathmore University is structured to reflect the changing world of commerce and to provide a firm foundation for the world of work, including the necessary skills, ethical principles and general knowledge needed for decision-making in a business environment.

This Bachelor of Commerce programme is meant to meet the current need for managers with broad based training, who are at the same time specialists in a given area of business. The programme incorporates some courses in Information Technology to help meet the demands of the current job market and the projected continued influence of electronic trade in conducting business. Courses in humanities and ethics are included to address the need for a wider consideration of issues in business decision-making.

Entry requirements for Bachelor of Commerce

Holders of the following qualifications are are eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Commerce degree programme at Strathmore University.

  • KCSE mean grade C+ with C+ in Mathematics and English,
  • KACE with 2 principal passes and 1 subsidiary pass, and a credit pass in Mathematics at KCE.
  • Diploma from recognized institutions

Evening Programme Entry Requirements

  • KCSE mean grade C+ with C in Mathematics and English,
  • A-level with 2 principal passes and 1 subsidiary pass, plus O-level 6 credits which should include Maths and English
  • Diploma from recognized institutions

BCOM Exempt Additional Entry Requirements

  • CPA (K) or CPS or ACCA

Interviews and Entrance Examinations

Interviews will be conducted every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.00am, Madaraka Campus.
Bring 3 passport-size photos, originals and copies of academic and professional certificates, a copy of national ID or Birth Certificate, and Kshs 600 interview fee.

Bachelor of Commerce Course Subjects

The Bachelor of Commerce course at Strathmore University is offered in two stages, Stage I (Years 1 and 2) and Stage II (Years 3 and 4). Stage I comprises twenty-eight (28) units and Stage II comprises twenty-six (26) units. Each stage is equivalent to two academic years.

There shall be two attachments, a community-based attachment within the period of stage I and a professional attachment within the period of Stage II.

Beginning in the third year, students specialise in the options provided.
