Course Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program provides students with the opportunity to develop strengths in the analysis, applied design, development, implementation, and management of information technology systems.

This  Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree program at Meru University covers the critical technology areas of programming for traditional, Web, and mobile applications, and for networking, database, and information security. This provides the breadth of knowledge needed to develop maintain and support modern applications. In addition, the curriculum includes courses focused on key business areas needed to integrate and manage technology and technology projects in the workplace.    

Graduates of the IT program at Meru University have the opportunity to acquire knowledge, abilities, and hands-on skills that are valuable to employers. Through concentration areas, students can focus on skills used in the professional areas of applications development, Web and multimedia design, systems and network administration, database administration, and business analysis.

Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree program at Meru University are:

  • Must have an aggregate grade of C+ (plus) in K.C.S.E. and a minimum grade of C (plain) in Mathematics and English OR 
  • Diploma in Information Technology or any other relevant field. 

One is eligible for second year (Year 2) if they have a Credit pass in Diploma in Information Technology or any other qualification recognized by the Meru University Senate.

Course Objectives

The primary educational objective of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree program is to produce graduates who can enter into and advance in the professions of information technology, as well as continue their education and obtain advanced degrees in this and related fields.

With regard to program outcomes, graduates must be able to evaluate current and emerging technologies; identify user needs; design user-friendly interfaces; apply, configure, and manage IT technologies; assess IT impact on individuals, organizations, and the environment; and apply fundamental IT concepts and strategies to real-world problems.
