About University of Kabianga

The University of Kabianga is an institution of higher learning in Kenya that is located in Kabianga Complex in Kercho County.

University of Kabianga (UoK) is an ISO certified institution that received its charter as a fully-fledged University on 1st March 2013. It was established as a Campus of Moi University. The Campus was officially decreed by His Excellency the third President of the Republic of Kenya, Hon. Mwai Kibaki on 10th of May 2007. The University Campus was elevated to a Constituent College of Moi University by Kabianga Order 2009, through the Legal Notice No 77 in the Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 36 of 29th May, 2009.

The University of Kabianga is situated in what was formerly Kabianga Agricultural Training Centre which has a long history dating back to 1925. Between 1925 and 1959, the facility was Kabianga Agricultural Centre. Thereafter, in 1959, it was transformed into Kabianga Agricultural Training Centre managed by the Ministry of Agriculture to provide short courses, workshops/seminars, and exhibition and extension services to the farming community, in the South Rift Region of Kenya.

The University of Kabianga is located in Kabianga Division in Kericho West District.

The University is situated in the Kabianga Complex, comprising of the then Kabianga Farmers Training Center, Kabianga High School, and Primary School, and the Kipsigis County Council Tea Farm.

The Government School, Kabianga, was started in 1925. Kabianga Teachers’ Training College existed between 1929 and 1963 when the College was moved to the present Kericho Teachers Training College.

After the relocation, Kabianga Farmers Training Centre was established in 1959 at the premises. Its objective was to serve as an Agricultural Training facility for farmers from the South Rift and beyond. Kabianga Farmers Training Centre became the Kabianga Campus of Moi University in May 2007. In May 2009, the University Campus was elevated to Kabianga University College.

Accreditation

The University of Kabianga was awarded a Charter on 1st March 2013 by His Excellency the third President of the Republic of Kenya, Hon. Mwai Kibaki.

University of Kabianga Location

The University is situated in the famous and lush tea
growing highlands of Kericho in the South-Western end of the Rift
Valley Province of Kenya and within the proximity of the famous
multinational tea growing companies, Unilever, James Finlay and George
Williamsons.
It is located approximately 26 km from Kericho Town and is
about 6.2 km off road a junction called Kabianga Dairies, formerly -Premier- on Kericho-Kisii road
